Radio Star - Review - Greenpoint - New York - The Infatuation

"You can workshop your transcontinental accent at Radio Star, an all-day bar and restaurant from the Glasserie team. It’s right next to Transmitter Park, and leans hard into its golden age of radio theme. All the vintage furniture is from the ’40s, and there’s a post-war, industrial feel to the concrete bar and white cinder block walls. You and some friends can cosplay as radio hosts, catching each other up on the neighborhood news. They are open literally all day, but this spot is best used when the sun is pouring through those south-facing, floor-to-ceiling windows. Thankfully, the food here steers away from an exhibition on the era. The natural wine selections are written by hand on small signs, and the food leans Mediterranean—think ham-and-egg sandwiches on flaky roti and spinach-and-feta pies for breakfast, and chewy sautéed ginger-forward squid for dinner. And while nothing is sensational, the bites here are more than sufficient enough to fuel conversation. Food Rundown Country Ham and Egg Griddle Sandwich Not every breakfast sandwich needs to be on a fluffy bun or a kaiser roll, and this one is proof. The flaky roti-like bread gets spiraled in with a thin layer of fluffy eggs, and some salty ham. Grab one for breakfast. Spinach Pie Essentially spanakopita. A solid option if you’re just here for a glass of wine and start to feel peckish. This should tide you over to dinner. Pistachio Chicken Croquettes Again, fine for a quick drinking snack, but we wish there were more pistachio flavor. Some extra nuttiness would’ve gone a long way. Sautéed Calamari This is a socially unacceptable take, but if we could bring these snackable, chewy squid bits to the movies instead of popcorn, we would.
