"While most tourists are heading to overhyped El Rinconcillo, you should navigate to Blanco Paloma instead. Both spots are institutions for traditional Spanish food, but Blanco Paloma is a superior experience. Yes, you’ll have to call for reservations, but it’s worth it—this is where the locals are. Order the Habla de Ti, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc from Extremadura, and ask for the off-menu mackerel tartar, a standout dish with strong, fresh flavors that make it seem like the fish was plucked from the ocean only moments before. If you’re too last-minute for reservations, sidle up to the bar (the other side of the restaurant is an upscale dining room) for small plates like grilled goat cheese with raspberries and walnuts, shrimp in garlic and oil, or acorn-fed jamón." - Aileen Weintraub
