"A beach picnic always sounds like a good idea, until you arrive at the beach with a very soggy sandwich. That's where Kimo's, which is two blocks from the Beach 92nd Street entrance in the Rockaways,  comes in handy. The narrow Greek spot makes picnic-worthy chicken souvlaki pitas, and smells constantly of freshly-made french fries. They use those fries in an impressive number of ways, including stuffed into pitas, and under a pile of crispy chicken, white sauce, and banana peppers. But they also have lighter options, like mezze plates, and a very sippable Moroccan mint lemonade. Pick up a spread and carry on for some hummus-eating in the sand, or grab a seat on their shaded back patio, and cool off with a greek salad after a long beach day." - Willa Moore
