Virginia Beach Is the Birthplace of East Coast Surfing—It's Getting the First 'Wavegarden' in the U.S.
"Set to open by July within a 10.35-acre entertainment district developed with Pharrell Williams on the former site of the original Dome, this surf lagoon is the first in the United States to use Wavegarden wave-generation technology. Located just two blocks from the ocean, it will produce consistent, year-round rideable waves with seven wave settings—offering gentle rollers for beginners up to fast, barreling breaks for advanced riders. Sessions last 55 minutes and start at $100, and on-site coaching will be available, led by local pro Jason Borte, the director of coaching and a 2016 East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame inductee.
