"You have to address the fact that The Pavilions doesn’t have direct access to its own stretch of beach, which is a dealbreaker for some but not for the 20- and 30-something couples who stay here and are happy to lounge by their own private pool in the morning before hopping on a moped to explore Phuket and its beaches in the afternoon. Its northwest-coast location makes it a good base for exploring, but there’s plenty on-site too, including two pools (one adults-only) and a huge lounger-lined lagoon with blue and green LED lights that sparkle at night. Interiors in some suites and villas may raise eyebrows with ketchup-red sofas, butterfly-adorned rugs, and black furniture, but this feels like a refreshing, fun break from the more traditional Thai decor on the island; other rooms are more toned down, with creamy palettes, floaty fabrics, and four-poster beds. Both styles of rooms are huge compared to other options on Phuket, particularly the villas with private pools that offer exceptional bang for your buck. Dining includes a great Thai restaurant and a good Italian for when pad thai fatigue sets in, and the dreamy spa, surrounded by jungle greenery, has a treatment menu featuring products from Moringa Project, a family-run business using oil from moringa pods." - Chris Schalkx, Hannah Summers
