"I found that Jaclyn Leedy and Mark Wilcox combined their backgrounds in coffee and dog rescue to create Mutt’s Coffee, a roaster that highlights specific rescue dogs and donates 25 percent of its profits to Free State Four Paws, an Alabama-based dog rescue and advocacy group. When they release a roast they feature an actual rescued dog on the cover and tell the dog’s story on social channels; for example, Jada was rescued from a cable in 2020, sent to a rescue in New York, and was featured on a Guatemalan light roast to highlight the dangers of tethering (which can be very dangerous and is against the law in states like Oregon). They post each dog’s story on their website so people can read about past dogs after a roast sells out, allow customers to choose their own cover art or featured dog, and offer merch like stickers and mugs. The roasts often use beans from countries like Vietnam, Guatemala, and Columbia, are available for local delivery and nationwide shipping, and the founders plan to begin appearing at farmers markets—check their social channels for updates." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
