How to Tackle Addiction Aquatic Development, Taipei’s Seafood Paradise | Eater

"A sprawling gourmet seafood marketplace that feels like a cooler, upscale indoor market—spacious inside with warm wood paneling, pastel chalkboards, and outdoor eating areas planted with greenery and Edison-bulb candelabras. Large temperature-controlled tanks of live fish and shellfish meet flash-frozen and precooked seafood for takeaway, and staff will cook purchases on the spot. Stalls and counters cover almost every preparation: a small outdoor snack bar sells seafood congee, braised abalone, swordfish rice noodle soup, and an assorted seafood plate (often boiled shrimp, sliced octopus, and steamed manila clams); a supermarket area stocks high-quality meat, Taiwan fruit and produce, imported snacks, sauces (scallop- and squid-based), and novelty honeys for souvenirs; standing bars and stations offer sashimi, oysters, sweet shrimp, steamed snow crab, sashimidon (seafood over rice), and exceptionally sweet raw prawns; and numerous grab-and-go stalls sell mentaiko spaghetti, breaded pork cutlets, fried squid balls, tempura eel, stews, grilled seafood, skewers, and boxed sashimi. Most eateries are cash-only, operate first-come, first-served (so crowds and weekend lines are common), and are standing-room oriented, with only two venues in the complex taking reservations. Additional amenities include a bento-to-go station, prepackaged cooked dishes and grilled items, seasonal shaved ice, dessert and juice carts (featuring unusual blends like pumpkin or broccoli milk), and a to-go window for the outdoor grill." - Karissa Chen
