"At the Sonic Drive-In at 3023 Inwood Road in North Dallas, I report that an employee threatened to call the police on a group of six black teenagers after they got out of their cars to eat together outside on May 29, and the teens said other groups of white young people later ate in the exact same place without being disturbed. In response, thousands of Dallasites protested the mistreatment over the weekend by filling up the drive-thru, and on Sunday hundreds of cars occupied the drive-thru lane — some carrying signs, others standing up through sunroofs and chanting. Sonic issued a public apology, called the incident’s handling inappropriate, thanked the families for productive discussion, and announced steps to revise manager-involvement policy and bolster training with consistent unconscious bias training focused on the African American experience." - Amy McCarthy
