"Having expanded to Richmond’s Northside after more than a year operating a food-truck offshoot, Marvin Nguyen opened the Richmond location this week with his parents Kevin Nguyen and Jenny Cao, and his mother—who worked on the food truck—serves as chef; Nguyen spent about four months in New Orleans studying and doing kitchen work to learn the recipes, from cooking fried rice and chicken to marinating. The Richmond spot will serve the original’s famed chicken wings along with po-boys, gumbo, and Vietnamese specialties while Nguyen experiments with new recipes and expands the menu, but unlike the New Orleans location it will be takeout only (no convenience store), and there’s no word yet on whether they’ll serve yaka mein." - Clair Lorell
