"I visited the new cafe called Finjan (named after the Arabic word for "coffee cup") in Tahini's original Kearny Mesa storefront; it gives owners Osama Shabaik and Mahmoud “Moody” Barkawi the opportunity to showcase more Middle Eastern food and culture. Finjan is starting with a menu of standard and specialty espresso drinks using James Coffee — including cortados, cappuccinos, and iced sparkling orange espressos — plus cold brew, tea, and daytime snacks like yogurt parfaits and toasts topped with za'atar-spiced labne or mashed fava beans and tahini. More of the Middle Eastern side of the menu is expected by early 2023, featuring desserts based on homemade phyllo such as knafeh (a sugar syrup–soaked shredded phyllo pastry with cheese) and baklawa layered with nuts and honey. The cafe is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and also serves real Turkish coffee brewed in a traditional sand coffee machine, Arabic coffee, and Moroccan mint tea." - Candice Woo
