"A tropical, garden-themed cocktail bar opening in South End at 1440 South Tryon Street, this 2,000-square-foot former salon will seat roughly 60–70 guests plus additional standing room. Designed by Black Dove Interiors, the interior will be lush with succulents, hanging lights and art, with a small jazz booth and a screen for showcasing visual work to create a conversational, drink-centric atmosphere rather than a loud club. Led by veteran mixologist Bob Peters and developed by Built on Hospitality (Chris Coleman and partners), the beverage program will be split between crowd-pleasing classics and original craft cocktails that explore rums, tequilas and mezcals as well as gin, vodka and whiskeys, including fruit-forward drinks meant to evoke a Miami garden-party vibe. Sustainability is built into the concept—low-waste practices such as fresh juicing with reuse of peels for syrups—while a limited food menu of elevated bar bites (Thai chili gin-washed olives, Tajín popcorn, warm crab dip with salt-and-vinegar chips, praline bacon), a cheese program and caviar service will complement the drinks. Hours are slated to begin early summer 2024 with evening-focused service, and the team intends the space to feel restorative and laidback rather than clubby." - Kayleigh Ruller
