"A Dallas-based taco chain known for its creative, eclectic tacos opened its first Florida location on Wednesday, September 13 in Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale at 305 South Andrews Avenue, Suite 115. Velvet Taco's menu features inventive offerings such as a chicken-and-waffles taco made with a waffle tortilla, a Cuban taco with pulled pork, and breakfast items like the Velvet Griddle—candied bacon, scrambled eggs, and tater tots in a French toast tortilla—while the restaurant creates new tacos every week. Outside of tacos it offers sides such as elote and nachos, red velvet cake for dessert, and a full bar. The chain started in Dallas in 2011 and has expanded to about 40 locations across seven states; it was also a contender in Eater's 2017 “Name of Groans” competition (the “Distressingly Sexual” bracket). A second Florida location is planned for Wynwood in early 2024, and current hours are Sunday–Wednesday 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m.–midnight, and Friday–Saturday 11 a.m.–2 a.m." - Erin Russell
