Matchbox Pizza Plans to Open in Bethesda Row by the Summer | Eater DC

"Planned to open this summer in Bethesda Row, the new 3,000-square-foot Matchbox will take over the former American Tap Room space at 7278 Woodmont Avenue. Streetsense will create a vintage-meets-industrial design anchored by a pizza bar and wood-fired ovens; the 190-seat restaurant will feature an open bar area with high-top perches, a private dining room, and additional seating on two patios along Woodmont Avenue and Elm Street. Culinary director Jim Drost will add new items to Matchbox’s existing lineup of wood-fired pizzas, mini burgers, tuna tartare tacos, and supersized meatballs, and the location will serve lunch and dinner, brunch, and happy hour. After Thompson’s $11 million takeover last summer, the brand is pursuing a strategy of smaller, neighborhood-focused restaurants and plans a second Silver Spring site plus another to-be-announced location this year." - Tierney Plumb
