"I visited the Dayton, Oregon vineyard, winery, and olive mill Durant during its monthlong Olio Nuovo festival and found it a lively celebration of the new harvest: founded in 2008, Durant is Oregon’s only commercial olive mill and sits on 17 acres of olive trees. The festival (Nov. 1–30), rooted in a southern Italian tradition of honoring olio nuovo, highlights Durant’s range of olive oils with events all month long — including some Saturdays of oyster-and-olio happy hours where Pacific oysters dressed in an Olio Nuovo mignonette are paired with Durant Vineyards brut (tickets $40). Every weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. there’s a free open-air marketplace at the Durant Vineyards tasting room featuring Willamette Valley food producers, food trucks, and live music; daily guided tours of the olive mill are available for $10 with advance reservations required; and I appreciated the complimentary olive oil tasting bar inside Durant’s Red Ridge Farms gift shop." - Janey Wong
