"With a 26-year history in Los Angeles and outposts across Southern California, the pizzeria has opened its first San Diego–area restaurant in Carlsbad at Beacon La Costa. I note the 3,500-square-foot space is the ninth Pitfire location for American Gonzo Food Corporation, the LA-based hospitality group behind American Beauty and Superba Food + Bread and Superba Snacks + Coffee, which intends to bring some of its other brands to San Diego County. Pitfire’s California-style pies are built on a fermented sourdough crust and cooked in a Marra Forni oven; offerings range from core classics like the Sausage Party (bacon, fennel sausage, Genovese salami) to the seasonal Smashing Pumpkin topped with goat cheese, greens, pumpkin oil, and pepitas, plus vegan options including a Margherita made with cashew cheese and a cauliflower crust. The menu also extends to starters and salads—such as roasted chicken meatballs served with Superba bread and a steak salad—pasta like cavatappi alla vodka, and desserts including cookies and brownies crowned with Strauss Family Creamery ice cream, while a full bar features beer, wine, cocktails and boozy slushies like the Negroni Freezoni and Pitfire Margarita. They launched pick-up and delivery from the Carlsbad storefront on October 30–31, with dine-in lunch and dinner service starting November 1." - Candice Woo
