"I learned that Chef Thiago Silva sent over 600 gold-tinted bonbons from his Salt Patisserie in Newton Centre to Jay-Z’s Gold Party during the Oscars; the bonbons were filled with cognac-infused dark chocolate ganache and paired with the event’s Gold Fashioned cocktail, a riff on an Old Fashioned. The opportunity came after a rep for cognac brand D’ussé reached out, and Silva — who has made pastries for clients including John Legend and Derek Jeter and has won competitions like Beat Bobby Flay and Chopped — opened his first pastry shop last summer in Newton Centre.
