"Opening Wednesday, November 6 at Avalon in the north Fulton County city of Alpharetta, I note this health-conscious restaurant caters to people following an "anti-inflammatory diet" and serves a menu loaded with vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten-free dishes. Located across from Crate and Barrel, the Alpharetta menu should be similar to the Buckhead restaurant and includes kid-friendly items such as an almond butter, banana, and apple sandwich and a chicken teriyaki bowl, along with fresh-pressed juices, wine, beer, and cocktails. The chain’s first Georgia location opened at Lenox Square five years ago, and in July Oprah became a major investor and joined the board—her go-to order is the Tuscan kale salad with a Thai grapefruit martini. Hours are Monday–Thursday 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.–11 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–11 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.–9 p.m., with weekend brunch 10 a.m.–3 p.m.; the concept is chef-driven with a scratch bar, seasonal creative dishes, and handcrafted cocktails that emphasize wholesome, nutrient-dense ingredients and thoughtful preparations." - Beth McKibben
