"Tempura House, a beloved Japanese bento shop in Sawtelle, closed on October 29, 2024, after 75 years of business. The restaurant opened in 1949 and changed ownership in 2019. Tempura House announced its closure in an Instagram post thanking the community for its “support, laughter, and memories.” In a statement to Eater LA, a representative for Tempura House said that the landlord sold the property to a developer, and the owner was ready to retire. The confluence of the two factors made it feel like a “natural transition point.” The restaurant was best known for its takeout bento boxes, which featured proteins like salmon teriyaki, pork cutlet, and thinly sliced pork belly, served alongside steamed rice and salad." - Rebecca Roland
