"It's been a long time in the making, but southern Richardson's Lockwood Distilling Co. is just about ready to open at 506 Lockwood Drive, with permits currently in process. The micro distillery/restaurant has a sleek look featuring exposed brick, black-and-white decor, and rustic wood, and plans to start by making rum and rum cocktails before expanding into brandy, whiskey, gin, and even beer. Owners Evan Batts and his wife Sally worked with Dallas chef Justin Box to create a comfort-food menu with hearty sandwiches like a stacked bologna and a tuna melt smothered in melty cheese, while desserts will showcase local vendors such as Sweet Firefly ice cream and Pop Star popsicles.
