Legendary South LA Nightclub Burned to The Ground on Wednesday Night | Eater LA

"A former South LA nightclub owned by record producer Lonnie Simmons, this influential R&B, soul, and funk venue helped launch numerous acts and was considered the R&B equivalent of the Roxy Theater. Operating from 1972 into the late 1990s, it regularly showcased up-and-coming stars such as Teena Marie, the Gap Band, Queen Latifah, and Tone Loc; legend holds that Simmons even maintained a small recording studio inside the building. Simmons died in 2019, and in a recent overnight blaze the structure was completely destroyed despite efforts by LA County fire officials." - Mona Holmes
