"Known mainly for its breakfast and brunch, the Cottage’s cozy flagship in La Jolla has been a hub for daytime dining since the mid-80s; co-owners Jason Peaslee and Bernardo Kanarek, who’ve operated the landmark since 2018, are expanding into Del Mar Plaza with a leased former ground-floor space and a planned debut by Spring 2024. The menu highlights include the popular stuffed French toast, lemon ricotta pancakes, and eggs La Jolla (a take on eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon, balsamic mushrooms, spinach, and roasted tomato), and it also offers a lunch menu of salads, sandwiches, tacos, and bowls. Ikedo Design will oversee the transformation of the 2,000-square-foot Del Mar storefront, and the owners previously opened an offshoot in Encinitas Village last summer." - Candice Woo
