"Chef and co-owner Joe Rodger (whose childhood nickname was Joe Joe Bob) worked in fine dining restaurants such as Frasca in Boulder and Ubuntu in Napa, and brings his fine dining sensibilities to this easygoing fast-casual sandwich shop, situated in Fort Valley Shopping Center north of Flagstaff’s downtown. Rodger keeps the locally focused menu lean, offering soup, a few salads, six sandwiches, and one or two daily specials, all subject to seasonal change and his own creative whim. The #6 — his riff on a Reuben, composed of unctuous corned beef cheek, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, kimchi, and spicy sauce, all set in a pumpernickel bun from Noble Bread — makes everyone a believer, as does his silky strawberry gazpacho, which shows up as a daily special. It’s hard to decide between sandwiches filled with, say, salami, burrata, stone fruit pesto, and greens, or barbecue chicken with elote slaw and morita barbecue sauce.
