"I learned that a new winery and tasting room from certified vintner Kristina Tucker and her husband Ron is opening this week in Northwest Houston: Decant Urban Winery at 948 Wakefield Drive. The massive 10,000-square-foot space has room for fermenting barrels, a small tasting lounge for 10 to 12 people, and a forthcoming 2,000-square-foot tasting room that will hold 75 to 150 people and include a large dog-friendly patio. Kristina is heading up grape purchasing and fermenting as the head vintner after earning a master’s degree in horticulture with an emphasis in enology from Texas A&M (she studied biomedical science as an undergrad and worked in fine dining, and her husband encouraged her to pursue winemaking professionally). On opening day Decant will debut three Texas wines — an alberiño, a zinfandel, and a cabernet sauvignon — with Oregon and Washington varietals (including riesling, pinot noir, and syrah) to follow next month and Northern California wines arriving in several months to bring the selection to about 16 varietals. Food offerings will start with a shared pizza truck from the neighboring brewery plus cheese and charcuterie plates and light bites, with more options once the larger tasting room is open; hours will be Wednesday–Friday 4–10 p.m., Saturday 12–10 p.m., and Sunday 12–6 p.m." - Alaena Hostetter
