"Shake Shack, the other cultishly beloved burger chain that’s been rolling out locations throughout the U.S., appears to be coming to Portland at long last. DJC Oregon reports that a site plan sporting Shake Shack signage has been filed with the Bureau of Development Services for a location across the street from Powell’s Books and next to the Living Room Theaters. Per DJC, the submitted plan calls for two outdoor patio areas — including one uncovered one with “terraced seating” and “fixed ping-pong table” — as part of a 4,976-square-foot space that’ll presumably offer Shake Shack’s familiar menu of burgers (always on Martin’s potato rolls), cheese fries (crinkle cuts only), concretes (blended frozen custard), and ShroomBurgers (don’t sleep on the ShroomBurgers). Founded by NYC restaurateur Danny Meyer in 2001 as part of his Union Square Hospitality Group, Shake Shack now has locations in 30 states and 15 countries: 275 in total worldwide by the end of 2019. SEC filings from December 2019 noted the brand would unsurprisingly open up to 25 new company-owned locations, including some new markets like Indianapolis and Sacramento, locations though Portland were not explicitly on that list. It’s unclear when the new Shack would open, particularly on a timeline impacted during the novel coronavirus pandemic. (Currently, Shake Shack locations across the country are operating on a to-go-only model.) But those 2019 SEC filings indicated that “a typical Shack takes between 14 and 20 weeks to build.” Eater has reached out to Shake Shack representatives for more information about opening timeline." - Erin DeJesus
