"At New Braunfels Brewing Company, I saw the brewery position itself as the originator of Texas pickle beers: it first brewed PKL FKR in 2015 in collaboration with pickle producer Texas Tito’s, and recently released a tongue-in-cheek Memorial Day limited taproom-only beer called MRTN HSE FKR — described as a “spicy fruit punch pickle beer” brewed with white wheat, blended with Texas Tito’s pickle juice, re-fermented with Mexican fruit punch soda, and aged on three different spicy peppers. The brew’s label explicitly lays out the brewery’s timeline of pickle releases (including jalapeño variants and PKL PNCH in February 2020) to underline the point, and owner Kelly Meyer says the stunt was meant as a joke rather than a legal attack; he notes beer recipes can’t be copyrighted, that fans loved it, reviews have been good, and there were only about five or six cases left at the taproom though he might consider bringing it back." - Amy McCarthy
