"San Francisco–born fast-casual sandwich shop opened its first Houston outpost at 1051 Heights Boulevard in partnership with Houston native and former Astros Minor League pitcher Mark Appel, quickly drawing long lines for hundreds of customizable sandwiches (meat, vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free) served on Dutch Crunch bread and slathered with the original "Dirty Secret" sauce. Founded by Ike Shehadeh in 2007 in San Francisco’s Castro, the brand has grown to 72 restaurants across five states with plans to reach 100 by the end of 2020 and to open three more Houston locations; earlier Texas expansion included two Austin spots also with Appel. For the Houston grand opening the first 50 guests received free sandwiches, hours are 10 a.m.–8 p.m. daily, and the location features themed local sandwiches such as the “Grand Pinkerton” (Pinkerton brisket, pastrami, Pinkerton BBQ aioli and provolone) and a veggie “Robert Woodrow Wilson” (vegan brisket, Pinkerton BBQ glaze and pepper jack), continuing a tradition of celebrity‑named menu items." - Tierney Plumb
