"About 1,000 people — including fast-food workers, union and non-union supporters — gathered in Midtown in front of the restaurant at 4235 Woodward Ave. to demand higher wages and union rights as part of a Fight for $15 strike. Demonstrators shut down Woodward Avenue and set up a table in the street; police ordered the crowd to clear the roadway, and 18 people (organizers said 20) were arrested after some participants, including Rashida Tlaib and Abdul El-Sayed, continued to sit at the table. Those taken into custody are expected to be released with misdemeanor tickets for disorderly conduct. The action was one of coordinated fast-food worker walkouts planned across battleground states for early October." - Brenna Houck
