"There have never been fewer music venues in Miami, which is why we should all be grateful that Luna Star Cafe persists. This North Miami cafe has been around for over 20 years, and is a local epicenter of folk music, an unlikely genre in this land of DJs and reggaeton. But Luna also hosts open mics, jazz, blues, and more on a stage about the size of a hot tub. The narrow space is full of tchotchkes accumulated over two decades, and the daily specials are written on a chalkboard behind the cluttered bar. Sit there and you can chat with regulars who’ll tell stories about being in the same elevator as Bob Dylan. We just came for the music, so we can’t vouch for the food, a mix of sandwiches, pasta, and rotating specials. But the beer selection is diverse and the music usually starts around 7:30pm. Just know that it’s cash-only and there’s usually a cover fee that goes towards the musicians, as well as a $10 to $18 minimum on food and drinks." - Ryan Pfeffer
