"Sam’s Hideaway calls itself “the oldest southernmost tavern on the mainland USA.” While we can’t quite fact-check that, we can confirm that the Florida City establishment on the edge of Miami-Dade civilization is a flawless dive bar. The wooden interior is frozen in time and occupied by a friendly cast of regulars. Last time we were here, the bartender shook our hands, introduced herself as Rabbit, and remembered our names for the entirety of our stay, which included free jello shots to celebrate a customer’s 62nd birthday. Bloody marys are garnished with a Slim Jim, and on NFL Sundays, complimentary hot dogs sit in a Crock-Pot. Sam’s is a worthy stop on any road trip to Key West, but it’s also a destination in and of itself for South Florida dive bar aficionados." - Ryan Pfeffer
