La Rosticceria at Eataly Review - Magnificent Mile - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Eataly is two floors of Mario Batali approved goodness, from cookbooks, to cookie cutters, to a Nutella stand where we’re pretty sure you smear the hazelnut-chocolate spread all over your face. And in the midst of all the craziness is a panini stand on the first floor. But f*ck that panini stand. For the best sandwiches at Eataly, and generally excellent sandwiches, head upstairs to La Rosticceria stand, which is Italian for The Rosticceria stand. You might be familiar with Baffo, La Pizza & La Pasta, or La Birreria at Eataly, but you could easily pass La Rosticceria not realizing what it offers. And we wouldn’t blame you for that, because the place as a whole is overwhelming at times. But the sandwiches at this little counter are worth going out of your way for. The meat spits behind the La Rosticceria counter aren’t just for show. It’s the birthplace for the protein of the sandwich you’ll eat. Whether turkey or prime rib, it’ll roast low and slow, so flavor is packed in before getting sliced up and placed on a roll. Since the meat cooks on the spits in front of you, it means there are only two options every day. Prime rib is always available, in addition to seven different specials that each own a specific day of the week. Most are pretty basic, but with quality meat, great bread, olive oil, sea salt, and pepper, basic is all you need. So trust us when we tell you to pick up one of these sandwiches any time before 7:00pm, seven days a week. And then grab a jar of Nutella on your way out. For your face. Food Rundown Prime Rib The specialty that’s available daily. Porcini-rubbed prime rib is sliced up on a large roll with extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper. So simple, so good. There’s never a bad day to get a prime rib sandwich. Fennel-Rubbed Turkey Breast Saturday’s sandwich, and hands down our favorite. Don’t let turkey fool you by sounding boring. It’s juicy and perfect and we can’t get enough. Also served simply with extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper. Braised Brisket Meatballs The weekends are a time to get a little wild, which is why this sauced up braised brisket meatball sandwich is available on Fridays. Brisket meatballs are great meatballs. Porcetta Porcetta is a strong move if you’re into fattier meats. Check out the rosemary, garlic and fennel-rubbed pork loin wrapped in crispy pork belly that’s available on Thursday’s, or a similar version that’s available Sunday too." - Sam Faye
