"When Max Bratwurst opened in 2012, they had rattlesnake and alligator sausages on the menu. You won’t find those now, but it’s not a big loss. This Astoria restaurant is more about comfort-eating and comfort-drinking. The outdoor tables fill up with dates, families, and friends drinking big glasses of the seasonal draft, or maybe a nice bananenweizen (beer and banana juice). Dancey remixes of oughts pop hits have everyone talking a little louder than usual, and if things get really lively, someone might order a two-liter “Das Boot.” Get the $72 Max Combo Platter, and upgrade the excellent schnitzel to veal for $2 more.Oktoberfest: On Saturday, September 20, Max Bratwurst will host a stein-holding contest, and every weekend through October 5, there will be a special set menu with things like German meatballs and Schweinebraten." - Willa Moore, Will Hartman, Sonal Shah, Molly Fitzpatrick, Bryan Kim
