"Mustard Seed has been around since 2005 (originally in Atlanta’s West End before making the move to Fairburn in 2016), and it’s still turning out solid takeout plates stacked with smoky meats. You can smell the BBQ as soon as you whip into the lot. And the alluring smells don't deceive. The ribs are meaty with just enough chew. The half-chicken tastes like it was part of some ancient ritual where flames gently dance around it for hours. On the other hand, the sides are just fine. The sweet baked beans feel a little more canned than cooked-all-day. Instead, get the potato salad, which is sweetish with thick-cut potatoes. Service moves fast inside the small, wood-paneled dining room, but heads-up—there’s no bathroom available to customers. Lisenbee-Parker Food Rundown Ribs These are solid with a chewy (yet not tough) texture that holds onto that backyard smoky flavor. PlayMute video credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker Half Chicken With this chicken, you get the hallmark taste and charred exterior of grilled meat, but the juicy inside hints that this chicken has been slow-cooked. Brisket Sandwich Tender brisket is packed onto a buttered bun. The sauce leans sweet with a honey mustard vibe and works well slathered all over the sandwich. Collard Greens These collards are earthy and firm. They could use a little more salt but work fine if you’re mixing bites with the chicken. Baked Beans We can almost see these being poured out straight from the can onto our platter. The only thing added is probably sugar. Not offensive, but not a necessary order either. Potato Salad Chunky potatoes work well in this sweet and mayo-heavy salad. A solid choice." - Jacinta Howard
