"The Algarve town of Lagos has some long, spectacular beaches, but one of its best hotels is set not on the sand but overlooking the marina. Lagos Avenida Hotel is, to be fair, just a few minutes’ walk from both the picturesque old town and the beach, and in its style it splits the difference between beachy resort chic and urban design-hotel cool.
