"In 2018, Elizabeth Peeples and Stefanie Bassett took over a hobby farm on the east side of Shelter Island in Gardiners Bay, which gives their bivalves direct access to the Atlantic. This provides a crisp taste to their oysters, setting them apart from other oyster farms in the area located in Peconic Bay. Little Ram Oyster Co. is also notable for being run by two women, which is rare in the fishing and aquaculture industries where women's labor is often less visible and valued.
