"Around the four-block stretch between Second Avenue and Front Street, there are so many taquerias the air is perpetually perfumed with the aroma of corn tortillas and spicy meat. If you weren’t hungry when you arrived, you soon will be. But always-busy Luis’s seems to be everyone’s favorite. Luis’s claim to fame (aside from Obama's visit) is its handmade tortillas. Pass up tacos for the chavindeca—two fresh handmade tortillas filled with oozy mozzarella cheese and your choice of meat, then showered in thick carpet of shredded cabbage, cilantro, onions, crema, and more grated cheese. The sopes are another must-order. Corn masa gets shaped into thick slab and fried until crisp outside, tender inside, then topped with refried beans, meat, shredded cabbage, salsa and tangy queso fresco." - Danielle Centoni
