"In Deep Ellum, the new walk-up Slutty Vegan Dallas, which opened in May and even earned a New Yorker mention, draws long lines (customers wait 30+ minutes and our non-peak wait was close to 40 minutes). We found the abbreviated Dallas menu missing items like the Heaux Boy and vegan shrimp. The Fussy Hussy ($15) was a perfectly decent, straightforward burger though we weren’t offered the advertised Impossible/Beyond choice; the Super Slut ($15) — loaded with guacamole, jalapeños and Slut Sauce (a delicious, spicy orange mayo with a secret acidic note) — was flavorful but overly wet and marred by a patty that tasted pre-formed/frozen. The Slutty Fries were outstanding — the crinkle cut held up and the Slutty Dust was “pure magic” — and the Hollywood Hooker ($18), made with chopped vegan Philly meat, vegan provolone, jalapeños, bell peppers, caramelized onions and vegan mayo on a hoagie, was the best item and reason to return because the chopped filling transforms the plant meat. The Sneaky Link ($15) pretzel-bun hot dog with Hawt Toddy chili was dominated by beans and a dense chili that overshadowed an otherwise decent bratwurst (we’d try the Big Dawg without chili instead). Hooker Fries ($10.99) were tasty but lighter on meat than photos suggested, heavy on melted vegan cheese and missing the caramelized onions; the shredded lettuce didn’t hold up. Drinks (OG Lemonade and Farmer’s Punch, $4.99 each) were refreshing, but extras like Slut Sauce and ranch were missing from our bag — a reminder to double-check orders during busy times." - Courtney E.
