"As part of TBNA’s coordinated “soft open” on May 15, I note that Wonder Bar is participating in a staff-only run meant to demonstrate safe reopening practices: doors unlocked, window boards removed, no drinks sold to the public, and DJs or live music encouraged. The bar will adhere to TBNA’s proposed guidelines—adding spaced tables and chairs to discourage standing, hiring extra door staff to enforce social distancing, using single-use plastic cups and paper plates, requiring staff masks, and supervising hand-sanitizer use—to try to show the industry can reopen safely. Its co-owner Darren Van Delden said he believes bars can adapt to create safer environments but acknowledged that businesses can only control so much of patrons’ behavior before and after visits." - Nadia Chaudhury
