"The Napa taqueria Mothers Tacos expanded south with a new location in Ventura that opened on April 22; the restaurant’s name is a tribute to the doñas of Mexico City and was founded by Charles Whittaker, Benedict “Ben” Koenig, and Ali Koenig. Offerings include al pastor shaved off the trompo and carne asada cooked over mesquite, and Oxnard-born chef Gabe Garcia prepares family-style dishes meant to serve three to four people with meats like slow-roasted pork belly “lechon” and mesquite-grilled tomahawk. The location also operates a churreria on site, serving freshly fried churros inspired by Mexico City’s El Moro." - Mona Holmes
