"It’s a little over 1,500 miles from Austin to Baltimore, but you wouldn’t know it after eating a spread of Maryland-style crab cakes and Old Bay wings at this East Austin food truck. As much as we’d love to spend $25 on a daily lunch of crab cakes, our financial advisors just aren’t having it. Fortunately, Old Bay wings make up a large portion of the tiny menu here, and they’re a testament to how well chicken pairs with Baltimore’s signature celery salt-heavy spice blend. Grab a crab cake to share with a friend, then fill up on chicken wings and the massive pit beef sandwich. Food Rundown photo credit: Richard Casteel Old Bay Wings Three different versions of Old Bay wings all share the same signature base, plus either butter, honey, or buffalo sauce. We like the honey variety—they’re tender inside, crispy to the bite, and coated in a sticky glaze that goes great with that hint of spice. photo credit: Richard Casteel Crab Cake Sandwich The crab cake is the highlight at The Marylander. The crab meat is sweet (and plentiful) and seasoned with plenty of Old Bay. We like to get it as a sandwich for a couple dollars more, which makes it feel like more of a complete meal. Pit Beef Sandwich It’s a massive sandwich packed with nothing but tender roast beef, onions, horseradish, and a little barbecue sauce. If you like all of those things, you’re going to love this." - Nicolai McCrary
