Iconic Pub Chain Wetherspoons Is Opening Its First European Branch In This Popular Holiday Destination

Located next to the non-Schengen Zone departure gates at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport, this new Wetherspoons pub is aimed primarily at Brits heading home from their holidays and is expected to do a roaring trade. Spanning more than 1,000 square feet and named after the nearby Alicante Castle, it will serve thirsty travellers seven days a week from 6am until 9pm from its opening on January 29. The place offers a chance to experience a bit of British pub culture in the airport, with food options including English breakfasts, pizzas and burgers, alongside some Spanish dishes like prawns and omelettes. The CEO Tim Martin says he is very much looking forward to opening this first overseas branch and believes it will be popular with people travelling home from Alicante Airport. - Annie McNamee
