"Opened as the venue for Formula 1’s first-ever night race in 2008, this central waterfront street circuit quickly became known for dramatic, tightly contested events and continual safety and layout evolution. In 2010 Fernando Alonso beat Sebastian Vettel by just 0.293 seconds — the smallest winning margin there to date — and in 2018 Lewis Hamilton secured pole with a 1:36.015 lap before going on to win. Following driver feedback, the notorious “Singapore Sling” chicane was removed in 2013 and replaced with a simpler, faster left-hand turn. The track has also seen alarming incidents, notably a 2015 spectator trespass when two cars passed at almost 290 km/h and the intruder was later arrested, prompting further attention to marshal and spectator safety; by 2019 drivers were required to wear biometric gloves that transmit vital signs to medical teams in the event of a crash." - Delle Chan
