"I've learned that Bonchon has signed a lease at 1460 E. Plaza Boulevard in National City and is slated to open its South Bay location in May 2020. Founded in South Korea in 2002, the chain has grown to more than 300 locations worldwide, arrived in the U.S. in 2006, and debuted in San Diego last fall with an outpost on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa. Its chicken is twice-fried in the Korean style and includes wings (the bestseller), drumsticks, chicken strips, and boneless wings offered in a soy garlic or spicy glaze or as a half-and-half combo; the menu also features classic Korean dishes such as bulgogi, bibimbap, and japchae. Bonchon is also reviewing potential expansion sites, including a lease at The Collection at UTC and discussions about Chula Vista and San Marcos." - Candice Woo
