"Opening mid-July near Baybrook Mall at 702 Bay Area Boulevard, I discovered a boutique Oregon-based coffee bar, Black Rock Coffee Bar, that positions itself as a neighborhood joint offering specialty drinks like non-alcoholic Irish coffees and cinnamon-tinged mochas alongside premium hot and iced coffees, smoothies, and high-quality teas; it even serves an extra-jolt beverage that includes six shots of espresso. Founded in Portland in 2008, the company stresses community involvement and a core mission to give young people opportunities to learn leadership, run a business, and develop people skills, and CEO Jeff Hernandez says they aim to hire “magnetic baristas who ‘live to make a positive impact on every person that visits our stores.’” The shop also offers a subscription program to have select roasts delivered as beans, grounds, or k-cups, and this Webster location will be the chain’s third Houston-area outpost (joining sites that opened in 2020 in Katy and City Square West) as it continues plans to expand further in Texas." - Brittanie Shey
