"Historic but not dated, this restaurant and tavern below an inn is a local East Hampton favorite. Small tables and low lights make 1770 House a cozy date spot, and you can always count on the friendly service and consistently good food. The $65 prix fixe includes two courses, but we prefer the more casual a la carte, which you can do if you make a reservation for the basement tavern. The meatloaf topped with garlic gravy is excellent, as is anything from the ocean. There’s no bar menu, but the classic cocktails hit the spot, and a wine list highlights some good local pours. When you need a quieter spot to catch up with friends and fight over the last bite of dessert, this is it." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner
